Great place to camp. Sites are shaded and most are large. Sites are somewhat protected from the wind by a large dune and large trees overhead. Wonderful boardwalk and beach area with a large fishing pier. The campground store was well stocked with necessary items and the staff was friendly. Only a short walk to the beach through a park-like area or boardwalk. Hiking trails through old gnarly oaks were interesting. The only negative was the jet planes directly overhead on final approach to the airport.

This is a wonderful place to camp. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Our site had its own private deck with a waterwheel. The New River Trail is within walking distance. The owners even volunteered their bikes for us as we did not bring bikes. Don't miss the jam sessions on Thursday night in the recreation center in downtown Fries. Although the campground is almost in town, a deer came through the campground nightly. No real restaurants in Fries, but it's only a short drive to Galax. We will return to this small, intimate campground.

This is one of the best values I have seen in campgrounds. Electric and water hook-ups on a beautiful, large site for $17 per night. ($8.50 per night with America The Beautiful Senior Pass) The park is in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area with lots of great scenery and amazing views on many of the hiking trails. Clean restrooms and showers, with friendly camp hosts and staff. We will return here yearly.
